Before I could delve into my foray with Nutrisystem I of course had to have a binge weekend. Not healthy, I know but hey, everyone wants to have one last fling, am I right? If your answer is no then don't answer that! All my yes' know where its at. I indulged in all my favorites that weekend leading up to starting the program: pizza, ice cream, hamburgers, bagels, the works! Even though I had received all of the food and knew I would get to enjoy all of this great food on the program I knew it wouldn't exactly be in the unhealthy quantities I was used to. Anyways, with the binging done (and a few extra pounds added) I was ready to jump into the first week. First up: the consultation
One of the great things about Nutrisystem is that they have weight loss counselors available seven days a week that you can call whenever you need help throughout the program. In my opinion, this was something wonderful that I planned on taking full advantage of; the first time being my pre-program conversation with a Nutrisystem weight loss counselor.
Before my scheduled phone call with the counselor I made sure to read through all of the great informational packets that were sent to me with the food. I was especially appreciative of the fact that there was a pamphlet that focused specifically on TurboWeek. This is the first week of Nutrisystem's new Turbo10 program that is supposed to jump-start your weight loss journey. The packet had great information including food you could and would eat during the first week, an example of how your daily meals would be planned out and a daily tracker to help you stay on track during the first week.
Talking to the Nutrisystem counselor was wonderful. Not only was she friendly but she really helped to simplify things for me. While there are a few different components involved on the normal program, she really stressed the importance of focusing on the TurboWeek and taking the program one week at a time. My counselor made sure that I understood how TurboWeek was supposed to go and answered the few questions I had for her.
One benefit of talking to the weight loss counselor was that she advised me not to work out during the first week, something I had her repeat multiple times because it just sounded too good to be true to me. Yes I know there are people out there who really love a good workout but, to be honest, I'm just not one of them! I would say I definitely fit into that category of people who wishes they could eat whatever they want and never gain a pound. Alas, I do not so my initial plan was to jump back into working out once I started the program. However, due to the low amount of calories that are consumed during TurboWeek I was advised not to work out or else my body would go into starvation mode and I wouldn't lose a pound! Ecstatic about losing weight and not having to work out I was all too excited to begin TurboWeek.
How It Works
I realize at this point you are probably wondering what exactly is the eating schedule like for TurboWeek. Well, let me break down a typical day for you: each day you eat a Nutrisystem breakfast, lunch and dinner and 4 servings of non-starchy vegetables. In addition to that you drink 2 Nutrisystem shakes every day: one TurboShake and one NutriCrush shake. Also, as any healthy person knows, water is essential to weight loss so it is important to drink at least 64 ounces of water daily. This picture shows you exactly how the day is planned out:
The tracker was really great in helping me stay on course during the first week. Now onto the part everyone is dying to know about: the food!
While the names on the food all sounded good we have all fallen prey to food that sounds good but ends up being terrible. With Nutrisystem however this was not the case! I can honestly say that their food is surprisingly tasty. Of course we all have our own tastes, likes and dislikes, but overall the food I had during TurboWeek was absolutely delicious. Since the Turbo10 week is all about making you a lean, mean, fighting machine there were a lot of nutrition bars but that doesn't mean they weren't still filling and flavorful. Plus, you get the 4 servings of vegetables each day to supplement what you eat. Each week of this program I will highlight my favorite foods from the week for you to give you some ideas of foods that I found particularly tasty to try for yourself.
The week started off on a tremendous high note with this delicious cinnamon streusel muffin. It was moist and full of cinnamon flavor which is always a good flavor in my book. Since it was the first piece of food I tried from Nutrisystem, I was quite satisfied and excited to try more of the food.
Breakfast continued to be a high note for me throughout the week with a few surprises. Turns out I actually preferred the baked breakfast bars over the other muffins I was sent. This blueberry lemon baked bar absolutely rocked my world. Seriously, I could eat a million of those! The cinnamon raisin baked bar I was sent was also fantastic.
Lunch during TurboWeek was mainly nutrition bars but again, I was not disappointed. My favorite had to be the trail mix bar which I found shocking since it had the least amount of chocolate out of the other bars that were sent to me. As far as regular lunch food goes my vote for the best goes to the three cheese chicken pasta. I'm not a huge fan of cheese except for in certain instances so I was a bit wary to try this product. However, it tasted like a wonderful version of mac and cheese. It was filling and delicious so again I was one happy chica.
The shocker of the week though was hands down the chicken alfredo. I know it will surprise all of you to know that I had honestly never had chicken alfredo before this but truthfully, I had not. As mentioned earlier, I'm not huge on cheese so the thought of a cheese sauce had never done anything for me. Once I took a bite though I was sold and happily devoured the deliciousness before me. What's even crazier is that I even preferred this to the wonderfully tasty Italian flatbread pizza that I also enjoyed during TurboWeek.
Lastly, I can't forget about the delicious Turbo and NutriCrush shakes that I drank throughout the week. To make the shake you mix the powder from the packets with ice and water and shake until it is all blended together. While it took me a day or two to figure out exactly how much ice and water I like in my shakes (I like a bit more than they recommend), once I got the hang of it I found the shakes to be quite delightful. I was sent chocolate flavors for both so what more could a girl ask for? Nothing, that's what!
With all of this great food I bet you are wondering how I lost weight and exactly how much I lost! Well, its now time for the results.
Drumroll please. . . . . . . . . . . .
I started out the week weighing in at 223 pounds. At the end of the first week I had lost a grand total of eight pounds making my current weight 215 pounds! Can you believe it? Eight pounds! I was through the roof ecstatic hopping off of the scale with those results.
In addition to the weight loss, my body felt better as a whole. The TurboWeek served as a great system cleanse which my body so desperately needed after my weekend food binge. I could feel myself having more energy, more confidence, and I was starting to like what I saw in the mirror a bit more.
Overall, I would give the first week of this new Turbo 10 program a huge thumbs-up. Were there moments that were hard where I wish I could eat more and binge out? Sure! However, I kept my goals in mind which I think was the true key to my success during this first week. With these great results in mind and new delicious food ahead to try, I eagerly dive into week 2 of Nutrisystem.
